A Thoughtfully Designed Cottage for a Wonderful Family

We recently had the pleasure of building a spacious and comfortable 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom cottage for a client who wanted to create the perfect home for his parents as they scaled down from a larger house. The goal was to ensure the new space felt open, familiar, and never cramped — and the result was a truly special cottage, both practical and welcoming.

The cottage features a generous open-plan layout, combining the kitchen, dining, and lounge areas into one large, flowing space ideal for everyday living and entertaining. A covered patio extends the living area outdoors, adding a peaceful spot to relax.

Attached to the cottage is a single garage, along with a dedicated workshop/storage room — perfect for hobbies or extra utility space.

Architecturally, we used a gable roof finished with a modern roof tile that closely matches the slate of the existing house, helping the new build blend seamlessly with the main property. While we typically install aluminium windows as standard, we went with steel cottage pane windows on this project to mirror the style of the existing home — a small detail that made a big difference.

It was a joy working with such lovely people who clearly care deeply about their family. This cottage is not just a practical solution — it’s a comfortable new home where their parents can enjoy independence, peace, and quality time close to their loved ones.
